Domino one last time

You all know how much I loved Domino (and if you missed it, see here and here). This weekend is an opportunity to buy a piece of their history! It's a Domino tag sale in NYC thrown by editors and contributors of the magazine along with some of their designer friends.

See here for all of the details.

Oh goodness-- this and the Design on a Dime show-- so much shopping this weekend!

Hope you can attend!!

This isn't your Grandma's Wallpaper

I'm loving wild wallpaper. These days it's about adding a wow factor. It can be the perfect update for a small space like a bathroom or laundry room or a pop on a wall of a larger room. I love this coral wallpaper off of the all white tile and tub - it feels modern and feminine!Just because a bathroom is small doesn't mean it needs to be boring. Designer Monique L'Huillier made quite a statement in this guest bath in her home. The chartreuse color looks great here and one of the benefits of a white pattern is that it prevents a bright color from feeling too aggressive. This dog pattern by Osborne and Little is the funniest thing I have ever seen! I love a sense of humor in decorating.
The pattern here makes for an exciting entry space that might otherwise be ignored and lost. Osborne and Little really know how to have some fun! They make this zebra print too! This kelly green pattern makes doing laundry a little more exciting!
I like the walls, but this chair is pretty great too!

Stop by and see what Julia and Fifi are loving this week!

Shopping for Charity!

I'm REALLY excited because this weekend is the Design on a Dime Benefit supporting Housing Work Thrift Shops.

It's a charity event that features more than 40 top interior designers, each who will have created room vignettes with new merchandise for sale at 60 to 80 percent off the retail price!!!!

It starts today with an opening night reception and goes through Saturday. Click HERE for all of the details!

I'm sure they will all be great, but I particularly excited about seeing some of my faves: Elizabeth Bauer Designs, Flair, Real Simple, and Calypso!

I'll be sure to post pics as soon as I go, but in the mean time here are a couple of pics from last year

Gala Dresses

Last night was the 2009 Costume Institute Gala Benefit at the Met so I thought I would share a couple of the pics of what people were wearing.. I'm never going to pass on the opportunity to share a pic of Tom Brady - he's just so dreamy! Gisele wore Versace and was on trend with wearing a short dress for this event, which Marc Jacobs encouraged by saying "it's kind of young, and kind of clubby."Anne Hathaway wore an eggplant Marc Jacobs - a color that was hot last fall and looks like it will be popular again this autumn. Donatella Versace and Cindy Crawford demonstrated the neon colors that are in right now - although personally I may limit these 80's colors to accessories only. Kate Moss wore this Marc Jacobs dress. I love a little metallic, and her shoes are awesome, but I can't ever imagine adding a metallic turban to my outfit.

The event celebrated the opening of "The Model as a Muse: Embodying Fashion" which opens at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6th. The exhibit recognizes how much models are responsible for adding to the allure of some fashions.

It features 86 looks arranged mostly by era and combines multiple media forms. The following pictures are a peek at the exhibit.
Giorgio di Sant'Angelo dresses. Anna Sui ensembles depicting the grunge era and how that changed the ideas in modeling. John Galliano's designs commemorating Christian Dior's 60th anniversary bring to life Loomis Dean's photograph.

I can't wait to check out the exhibit!!

Trunks

I've always loved using trunks as a coffee table and in fact I used one for my very first design project ever... my 8th grade bedroom - which I thought needed a coffee table like this for the seating area.I loved it!
And it seems like a lot of people are using trunks to decorate these days..
These Louis Vuitton trunks, shown in House Beautiful are beyond!
And this is just one of many styles that Pottery Barn is selling right now.

So I've been seeing a bunch of trunks around and a lot of them look pretty much the same but I walked into Restoration Hardware last week and they had 2 that were pretty cool.
This one, the Extra Large Mayfair Steamer Trunk really caught my eye because it's SOO big! With dimensions of 59x39x16, I fell in love with the fact that it's so oversized. It takes the trunk idea and makes it unique.
It comes in this brushed steel finish too. And I HATE that Restoration Hardware doesn't show everything in a room setting, because this pic looks pretty boring, but the trunk really does make a big impact once in a room! Another fun feature of the trunk is that there are drawers on either end that can be used for storage. And while we're talking about trunk-like things at Restoration Hardware, I also thought this chest was pretty cool!

New Concept: Island Bathroom

I came across this bathroom done by Brian Boyer and I love the island sink! I had never seen a free standing sink before in a bathroom and I thought it was fab! How funny that you see them in kitchens all the time, but in a bathroom it feels so novel!Hidden storage under the hatch! How convenient! What a view from the bath! All of the wood and dark tile gives it nice masculine feel.

Here's the floor plan in case you were wondering how it all worked out!
