Birthday Cheer

Happy Birthday to my friend Kim!

She coined the phrase "I just want to find a man that ages as well as my Marc Jabobs bag"

Sorry Kimi, I haven't been able you find you a man, but here are some cute Marc bags!

XOXO!

Champagne and Style Tips

After yesterday's J.Crew post, I've had shopping on my mind... and I was going to share all of my J. Crew items that I love so much right now, but I happened to stop by the Kate Spade site and I FREAKED out when I saw thisI love love love Tim Gunn! So the chance to meet him and shop at Kate Spade, well that's just a match made in heaven! Devastatingly however, he's not visiting any Northeast stores... and I had to tell myself to be rational and not book a trip to Florida just to meet him! But if any of you are lucky enough to attend one of the parties, you MUST share the details!

Anyways, while shopping I found a couple of these fun things on sale - I always try to start with the sale stuff to see if I can get the shopping urge out of my system there first!

The Calabasas Kei bag - I love the shape and think it's quite stylish!

Haig Point Kei - same as the above in a preppy version!
The Ipswich Constantine - obviously I love a nautical theme! I love clutches but never end up buying them because I can't fit all of my stuff in them!
Obviously mittens are out of season, but I thought they were so cute and funny! And purchasing them supports Women for Women International, an organization that helps women in war torn regions rebuild their lives by giving them financial and emotional support, job skills training, rights education, access to capital and assistance in small business development. These mittens were hand made by women in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Of course I had to check out some of the new stuff too! The Tortola Paola - how fun is this for summer? A little metallic is always fabulous!
I think this might be the perfect solution to my clutch dilemma! The Plaza Jocelyn bag can fold as a clutch or unfold for more room!
I've always thought the Tarrytown Nikolette is really cute... Just like a envelope!I've really been wanting a fun cocktail ring for a while now! Could this finally be THE ONE?!

I love this Sag Harbor dinnerware

It's so much fun to mix and match the stripes and dots!

J.Crew Home

The news channels have finally stopped talking about the Obama's wearing J.Crew.... so I figured it was my turn to chime in!

I've been a loyal J.Crew shopper since middle school, but rather than look at their clothes today, I'm looking at Jenna Lyon's apartment. She's the head designer/creative director at J.Crew and she creates beautiful apartments in addition to beautiful outfits!Pictured with her artist husband Vincent, the couple live in Park Slope, Brooklyn with their 2 year old son Beckett.Isn't their living room gorgeous? I love the grey, white, and black color scheme with yellow pops. It's elevated, but still livable.

The chandeliers and the fireplaces are beautiful. I've counted at least 4 fireplaces in the pictures - how amazing.
Jenna was insistent that the hardware in the bathroom look natural, so she obsessively sprayed it with salt water to give it a worn-in look. And yes, she definitely mastered the vintage feel!
I would be too afraid of ever doing walls this dark in my own home, but they seem to really work in her master bedroom and bath; it's unexpected.A dressing room! As much as I love the design in the other rooms, it might be this room that I am the most envious of! All of those shoes!Beckett's room is sophisticated, but cheerful. I like that it doesn't scream baby boy, but the striped ceiling makes it feel playful. I love alphabet letters as wall art; they're just so fun.

What do you think!? Should J.Crew start selling home goods??

I found it!

I babysit for some friends that have a fabulous stash of design magazines! (Yes, I STILL babysit, which actually is a fairly normal thing to do for 2o-somethings in a city that is disgustingly expensive - babysit through your 20's and wait til well into your 30's before having any of your own!)

Anyways, I was sitting about a month ago and found a Hampton's house in an old Elle Decor that I just adored. I wrote down all of the information so that I could look it up later online, promptly lost my notes, and haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

But I'm back babysitting and I found it!
It's a Bridgehampton farmhouse owned by Trey Laird (a big NYC advertizing guy) and his wife Jenny. What I love so much about it, is that it's not some absurdly over-done mansion. In the words of the owners "It just seems that every house out here is on steroids... We were looking for something more intimate."

It's this pool and poolhouse that really had me hooked! I have a thing for pools with grass landscaping and it's unusual to see trees so close to a pool, but by doing so, garden designer Deborah Nevins reinforces the feeling of country farmhouse. It's simple and unpretentious; it's gorgeous! And I love the lanterns around the edge of the pool!
I'm OBSESSED with this open air living space! To be fair, I'm partial to outdoor living areas because they make me think of warm weather - but I'm sorry, ton's of seating, white furniture, skylights, I could just scream over how much I love it!

For the interiors, the Laird's hired designer Jeffery Bilhuber and used family heirlooms as well as many of treasures that they had aquired from Paris flea markets and London antiques shops. Starting with the living room, the natural and blue color scheme seems perfect for this 1911 house; smooth and comfortable with a touch of "farm house." I'm not sure I like double-sided couches, but I do like the two separate seating arrangements that this one creates. And wow - that ceiling and a full wall of light!

(Second view of living room)

The library: Pops of yellow, created by a collection of National Geographic magazines, give the wall of bookshelves interest and color. I really like the highlights and lowlights of the wall color in the library. The light furniture and flooring keep the dark wall color from feeling overwhelming.

I've never seen a couch in a dining room before, but why not? It creates a perfect coffee corner in this french country dining room!

I'm not sure if it's the built-in bookshelves, the white-washed beams or the high, peaked ceiling that's my favorite part of the master bedroom...
The all white color scheme in the master bath feels so clean!
The quilt in this guest room is from Calypso Home - one of my favorite stores!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

It's gross and rainy here today, and I'd really like to stay inside and read a new issue of Domino.. but that's not going to happen, I thought I'd go through some of my old Domino faves..

Pink is my favorite color, but I try not to use it too much in decorating because I'm afraid of making a space feel too girly. But they really nail it in this room! It's just the right shade and with all of the white, it keeps it feeling sophisticated.
I'd kill to have that many windows! I love the simple black and white color scheme - keeps a lot of the focus on the amazing windows.
Animal hide rugs.. love it love it. (I JUST found out that my brother's co-worker grew up on a beef cattle ranch.. and now I want to know if I can get a deal on a cow hide rug!)Lime and turquoise accents - so hot right now!

I love the casual cafe seats here.

And for this dining space, I love the cushioned chairs. Who says you have to have standard "dining room" chairs?! The table here was a coffee table that's been heightened with longer legs - I love that it breaks the rules of standard table height.

I die!

Did anyone else catch the "Rachel Zoe Project" marathon this weekend...she's crazy, but I love it!I know that she looks tired and WAY too skinny on the show, but my friend who's seen her in person says she's gorgeous! and I think she looks pretty fab in this picture - the color looks amazing on her!
I'm obsessed with her assistant Brad. He's so cute and his style is impeccable. I was quite nervous for a few minutes when he quit in the Academy Awards episode. But he comes back, thank god!

Rachel is coming out with an affordable fashion line sometime this year including handbags, jewelry, fragrances and apparel. Will it all be fur and oversized sunglasses!? I can't wait to see.

I love that she gets that not everyone can dress designer, but can still look fabulous!

Here are ridiculously small pictures of her house that I have tried and tried and tried to make bigger, but my computer just won't stop fighting me on it!! If you go HERE and double click on the pictures you might actually be able to see them!
It's funny, for being such a wild dresser, her house is totally minimalist. But I guess when you have that many clothes around maybe its just easier to keep the decor simple! When watching then show, I never realized how modest the design was because there were always rolling racks, garments bags or accessories in the shot.

For more fashion fun, Bravo is coming out with 2 new shows soon:

"The Fashion Show" debuts on May 7th - it's basically the new "Project Runway" hosted by Isaac Mizrahi and Kelly Rowland. (The old "Project Runway" with Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum is moving to Lifetime.. so this is Bravos attempt to replace).

and "NYC Prep" premiering in June - it's more or less the reality show version of "Gossip Girl" so we can only hope that they dress as fabulously.

Design Board

You know how I've been LOVING grey recently!?! If you missed it, my grey obsession post is here.

As part of a design competition last week for one of my favorite blogs, Elements of Style, I created a room that was grey and white with pink accents. It was so much fun!

The full details of the contest are here, but basically I needed to create a budget friendly design inspired by this Jessie Randall room . I was immediately drawn to the modern white furniture and splashes of pale pink and I knew they'd look awesome with an update to grey walls!

Here's what I came up with:

My shopping list:

Couch – Ikea $499

Coral Print Chairs –Target $289 -these get a little $$ because I want 2 of them but I LOVE LOVE LOVE them I think they might be my most favorite part of the room!

White Chair – Ikea $129 - the great thing about these chairs is the slip cover is just about $30 - so if you're nervous about white getting dirty, the covers are easily replaceable AND you can always wash and bleach.

Zebra Print Pillows West Elm $34 - another fave of mine and I will most definitely be buying a pair of these.

Pink Pillows– Ikea $19.99,

Coffee Table – Ikea $29.99 - I'm thrilled by how affordable these tables are!

Square Side Table – Ikea $12.99

Round Side Table – Ikea $19.99

Oversized Japanese lantern –Luna Bazaar $11.95 -this one is huge with a 30 inch diameter. It makes such a big impact on the space for such a small price!

Table Lamps – Target $97

Painting – 20x200 $200 - This is my first time working with modern art, but I think I love it!

Elephant - West Elm $29.00 - I bought one of these recently and I'm OBSESSED with it. It's totally random and funny, but it's my most favorite thing that I have bought in the last 6 months!

Coral – Crate & Barrel $44.95

Jute Rug - Ikea $149

Paint - Sherwin Williams Magnetic Grey SW7058

There were a bunch of fabulous designs submitted as part of the contest, so make sure to check them out here! The winners received one of these lovely books! (When I went to the Domino website 2 weeks ago and it forwarded me on to Architectural Digest... the reality finally hit me. It's really gone.)
